A PAUSE FOR EFFECT
A caesura is a break in the middle of a line of poetry or music. And Caesura is a break from the intensity of the city, a thoughtful balance of the retreat and the community, the natural and the cultural. Caesura is both refuge from and connection to the life of the city.
It’s a distinctively modern, human-scaled building that stands out from the surrounding high-rise apartments for rent in the Brooklyn Cultural District. Featuring a mix of market-rate, middle-income, and affordable apartments, Caesura is designed to meet the needs of this diverse neighborhood.
And Caesura is made for green, holistic living. The rooftop, for example, is a garden lounge that celebrates New York’s ecological heritage—a healthy ecosystem of indigenous plants, pollinating insects, and birds, inviting residents to socialize, grill, eat or work in the fresh air and sunshine.
About Our Building Entrance Artwork
The Caesura residential entry façade sculpture is a collaboration between world renown artist German-Egyptian Susan Hefuna, Brooklyn based Situ Fabrication, and Datner Architects. Susan’s design was inspired by the pre- Dutch settlement of Fort Greene by the Carnarsie Native Americans, interweaving “Can Are See“ into the CNC cut aluminum pattern, starlight princess maxwin and linking the ground floor entrance to the building's rooftop gardened with plants of Native American origin. The sculpture filters the light and creates space 'in between', creating a meditative atmosphere for the residents entering the building and encourage them to leave behind daily stress of the outside when entering the inside space, their home.
Situ Fabrication is a custom fabrication shop specializing in architectural woodwork and metalwork, sculptural installations and specialty furniture. The sculpture was made just a few blocks from the project site at Situ’s Brooklyn Navy Yard shop.
